Title:Adaptation Models--in the case of overseas Chinese students in JapanSubmitted by:Shao Chun Fen, University of Sydney, AustraliaSince 1978, when the Open-door Policy was adopted, more than 300,000 Chinese have left China and studied overseas. The most popular destinations have been Western developed countries such as the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, and European countries. What kind of financial, linguistic, cultural, social, psychological, and emotional problems have they experienced after arriving in their new countries? How have they dealt with these problems? How have they adapted to the new environment and new society? What kind of factors define their adaptation? The aim of this paper is to analyse the adaptation models of overseas Chinese students by using examples of students in Japan.
